Good news for anyone who has ever craved fish and chips on the way to and from Manchester Piccadilly Train Station - Station Approach is to get its first traditional chippy. A vacant unit on Piccadilly Approach has been snapped up for the new fish and chip venture, with works starting soon on the site.
The owners say it will be a "cool chip shop" with stainless steel interiors. But while it will have a modern interior, it will be a traditional fish and chips menu with all the usual mushy peas, curry sauce and gravy accompaniments.
The business, set to be called The Chip Shop, is taking over from the former Northern Soul sandwich cafe at the bottom end of Piccadilly Approach next to Cafe Nero. In recent years the route up to the train station has become a hotspot for food and drink openings in the sweeping Gateway House, with popular additions including Archie's burgers, the Piccadilly Tap and Bravissimi Italian.

Now, owners of the chippy hope that their offering will bring something much needed to the area. A spokesman for the brand says: "We saw this as a great opportunity to have a traditional fish and chip shop on one of Manchester' s busiest routes.
"It's what the Manchester Piccadilly area is lacking at the moment, so we aim to fill that gap."
Planned operating hours are from 11am to midnight daily. As well as a traditional fish and chips menu, bosses are also planning to install an "Amsterdam-style" sauce rack with ten different cold sauce options as well as the hot curry, gravy or peas accompaniments.
The new opening is set to create eight new jobs, and bosses hope it will be ready to open mid-September.
For those currently in need of hot takeaway chips later in the evening around the Piccadilly area, there is the option of takeaway fries at Burger King inside Manchester Piccadilly Train Station and Archie's famous crinkle cut chips on Piccadilly Approach.
