Manchester has kept its crown as the most generous city for the second year running.
Despite the cost of living crisis, Mancunians – and kind-hearted people across the UK – are continuing to dig deep to donate to good causes.
Neighbouring city Salford came second in the Top 10 list released by fundraising website GoFundMe.
The North West was closely followed in the charts by towns and cities spanning the whole of the UK, from Belfast and Edinburgh to Norwich, Brighton and Newcastle.
Manchester also took top spot in 2021. Meanwhile, benevolent Brits ensured the country moved up one place to third in the list of most generous nations. We came behind Ireland and the US, and ahead of Canada and Australia.
GoFundMe said it recorded one donation per second over the course of this year.
John Coventry from the website said: “What we’ve seen in 2022 is that, at times of crisis, kind-hearted people always want to help each other. People are digging deep for people and causes they care about.
“The UK going up in the ranks for most generous countries was in part due to the huge response on our platform to the crisis in Ukraine, which was led by generous British donors.”
The site also revealed US$250million (around £205m) was raised for Ukraine across the website and US platform Classy in 2022, with more than 1.2 million donations.
Britain’s top three fundraisers were all Ukraine-related following Russia ’s invasion in February.
Britons donated more than £2.8m to the Association of Ukrainians’ campaign, which was GoFundMe UK’s largest appeal.
Money has also gone to support organisations AICM Ukraine and the Ukrainian Red Cross Society.
