Manchester cocktail bar named one of the best in the UK

A Manchester bar has been named one of the best in the country, just months after opening its doors.

Bosses at Blinker Bar, situated at the top of King Street in Spring Gardens, have revealed they have been included in Franklin & Sons’ annual Top 50 cocktail bars in the country.

The bar, which is influenced by British seasonality, first opened in May. Inspired by the ‘forgotten’ cocktail of the same name, which features rye, grapefruit and raspberry, the venue has quickly become a highlight in Manchester’s thriving bar scene.

Fronted by Stockport -born Dan Berger, formerly the head of bars at London’s The Ned and bars manager at The Gordon Ramsay Group, Blinker has a dedicated martini menu featuring locally-sourced ingredients. In addition, seasonal drinks currently include mulled negroni's and a chocolate boulevard, which features Lot 40 Rye whiskey, dark chocolate, Carpano bitters, and orange oils.

“I would describe Blinker as a premium yet approachable drinking destination focusing on well made drinks with a fresh seasonal influence," Dan told the M.E.N back in May.

Posting on social media this week, Blinker shared a photo of a parcel from Franklin & Sons congratulating them on making it to the top 50. The full 2023 list, and their placement, will all be announced in February.

The bar wrote: “Top 50 cocktail bars. We are thrilled to receive this after only existing for 6 months! To be included in the top 50 cocktail bars for the UK has taken us by surprise and we thank everyone who believes and supports us! Excited for the event in London come February!”

Congratulating the bar, one follower wrote: "That is amazing news & so well deserved…I am not at all surprised". Another said: "Congrats Dan. Recognition of your hard work and determination. Well done."

Another follower replied: "Well deserved! Great team, beautiful venue and unreal menu," whilst one added: "absolutely amazing!".

This year’s Top 50 cocktail bars saw two Manchester bars make their debut on the list, with Speak In Code, on Jackson’s Row, coming in at number 10 and Schofield’s, on Little Quay Street, recognised in 16th position. Both venues will be hoping to hold on to a spot in next year’s list.
