On the tenth anniversary of his 94th-minute strike to win Manchester City their first ever Premier League title, Sergio Aguero has been honoured with a statue outside the Etihad Stadium.
Last summer, permanent statues of Vincent Kompany and David Silva were installed at the ground, and Aguero now joins his former teammates as the club celebrates the key stars that kick-started their era of success.
Few played a more important role in that than Aguero, with his stoppage-time winner against QPR in the final seconds of the 2011/12 season snatching the title away from Manchester United in the most dramatic fashion.
“Truthfully, it is a very beautiful thing for me, to see myself 10 years ago is very moving,” Aguero said.

“In those 10 years I was able to win a lot of trophies and was able to help the Club become one of the most important in the world.
“I am very grateful to the Club for making this statue in recognition of my football career in Manchester. It is something very special.”
Aguero left Manchester as City’s all-time leading goalscorer, his tally of 260 goals leaving him well clear of Eric Brook in second. Only Alan Shearer, Wayne Rooney and Andy Cole have scored more Premier League goals, though Harry Kane’s latest brace against Arsenal moved him just three behind Aguero.
The 33-year-old left City after a decade in 2021 to join Barcelona, but a heart condition forced him to retire at the end of last year having made only five appearances for the Spanish side.
