Manchester City Champions League draw confirmed: Who will they play in the round of 16?

Manchester City have been drawn against RB Leipzig in the Champions League round of 16.

Pep Guardiola’s side remain on the hunt for their first continental triumph and will travel to Germany for the first leg of their knockout tie in February before hosting the Bundesliga outfit at the Etihad Stadium in the return clash.

City will no doubt be content with their last-16 draw given the other more significant dangers that lurked for the Group G winners in Monday’s draw including familiar foes Paris Saint-Germain.

Leipzig, who currently sit sixth in the Bundesliga, were also paired with City during the group stages of last season’s Champions League and conceded six times in a remarkable nine-goal affair at the Etihad, beaten heavily despite a hat-trick from Christopher Nkunku.

However, they won the home game 2-1 courtesy of goals from Dominik Szoboszlai and Andre Silva at a Red Bull Arena left empty due to Covid-19 restrictions, with Kyle Walker dismissed late on for a foul on Silva and drawing the ire of his manager.
