The Road That Ends Here
The sign at the edge of Mana village does not say welcome. It says: last Indian village. That is its entire function, to mark the stop. Beyond it, the road to Tibet rises steeply into restricted territory, and the Saraswati River, which Hindus believe disappears underground at this point to join the Ganga and Yamuna at Prayagraj, makes a sound like it knows something you don't.
