Police have issued a condition update on a man who was pulled from the canal.
A man fell into the water, in Bootle, at around 7.30pm on Thursday, June 15. Merseyside police said they were called to reports of concern for safety of a man.
Emergency services arrived at the scene, near to the Strand on Stanley Road, and found members of the public had already pulled the man from the water. Officers said he was rescued by people who had started CPR on him.
The man was taken to hospital in a critical condition. He remains in hospital but his condition is now being described as stable. Police are not treating the incident as suspicious.

In a previous statement, spokesperson for Merseyside police said: "Emergency Services were on Stanley Road in Bootle following reports of a concern for safety of a man last night, Thursday 15 June. Just after 7.30pm it was reported that a man had fallen into the canal near the Bingo hall on Stanley Road and was rescued by a member of the public."
