Man who left five-year-old girl to be killed by alligators spared death penalty

An elderly man convicted of kidnapping a five-year-old girl and leaving her to die in the Everglades, where alligators killed her, has been spared the death penalty.

A Miami-Dade jury deliberated for more than three hours before deciding that Harrel Braddy, 76, would face life in prison rather than the death penalty for the 1998 kidnapping and murder of Quatisha Maycock.
