A man who found £3,000 worth of drugs has been jailed after deciding to sell them.
Shaheim Saunders, 22, discovered the haul of heroin and cocaine, along with a knife, while out and about in Birmingham.
After discovering the stash, Saunders got the train to Loughborough where he tried to sell the drugs, Birmingham Live reports.
He sold £1,300 worth before police arrived at the address to search the premises.
He tried to flee the scene but was caught with the cash, 91 wraps of class A drugs.
He admitted possessing heroin and cocaine, with intent to supply as well as possession of the knife at Leicester Crown Court.
Natalie Goffe, mitigating for Saunders, of Apollo Way, Birmingham, said the defendant became a drug dealer "out of the blue" and accepted "making a foolish mistake." He had no previous convictions.
She added: "He'd been sofa surfing at the time and these matters are two years old, when he was 20. He's moved on significantly in his life since then."
Miss Goffe said the time spent on remand in custody (since Saunders' arrest on a warrant) had enabled him to think about the future. His partner is due to give birth in January. She said he went on the run because he was "scared" about going to prison.
Sentencing, Recorder Cameron Crowe said: "Having arrested another man they went to what was thought to be his address to search it.
"The police saw you leaving from the rear of the property as you attempted to jump over fences.
"They gave chase and saw you discard a bag which was recovered and found to contain 49 street deals of heroin and 42 wraps of cocaine, collectively worth £1,330.
"There was also £1,365 in cash, reflecting the money already made from selling other drugs, and a knife.
"I accept references paint a clear picture of you being a genuinely nice and caring man.
"On your account, however, you decided to spontaneously become a drug dealer in Loughborough, having found the drugs and a knife in Birmingham.
"You chose to become a drug dealer and arm yourself and make money selling drugs. This was your operation.
"Your family and girlfriend, who's expecting your child, are in court to support you." Saunders, of Apollo Way, Birmingham, Saunders was jailed for two years and five months.
