Idaho investigators have identified a man who died in a Boise church in December 1982 and say he may be connected to the unsolved Chicago-area Tylenol murders. The Ada County Sheriff's Office named him as Dr. Mathew Francis Betkouski, an organic chemist, at a news conference Wednesday, Sept. 23. Officials stressed that he is not being named a suspect.
Seven people died in the Chicago area in the fall of 1982 after taking Extra-Strength Tylenol capsules laced with cyanide. No one has ever been charged with the killings. The announcement adds a name to a decades-old Idaho mystery, but it does not close the Chicago case.
