Man who bought hoarder's £7k home finds 'real Aladdin's cave' with gold inside

A man who bought a hoarder's house for a mere £7,331 has hit the jackpot making almost £300,000 by selling the items inside.

Alex Archbold snapped up the hoarder's paradise and its contents blind after the previous owner died in December 2020.

The antique dealer, who has been in the business from the tender age of nine, had never seen the property but has developed a knack for treasure hunting.

After taking the gamble, he realised he had stumbled upon a treasure trove full of rare and highly collectable pieces worth thousands of pounds.

Speaking on his YouTube channel Curiosity Incorporated, he said: "The person who lived here was really into fashion so there is a really good chance that some of these items may be designer.

"So this is going to be an exploration, going through all of this stuff. That's what we're all about here."

The businessman, from Edmonton in Alberta, Canada, went on to uncover a haul of vintage Chanel clothing, Burberry boxes and Tiffany jewellery at the former piano teacher's home.

"Look at the dust," he commented as he began his tour of the house which was stacked from floor to ceiling in every room with bags, boxes and trinkets.

Wardrobes and cupboards appeared to be full to the brim with designer clothes.

While elsewhere in the property were wallets full of cash, bags of gold and diamond rings, he told Bored Panda.

“It was in an extreme state of hoarding.

"In fact, the only reason I bought the contents was because I thought it might be a fun adventure for our YouTube channel and at very least, I would get a grand piano," he told the publication.

"It was impossible to see what was in the house because of how full it was at the time. Places were piled up to the ceiling.

“Little did I know that the eccentric piano teacher I had met was, in fact, a millionaire."

Alex was confident that the items would have real monetary value and sorted through the hoard.

He believes he has made more than £293,270 after purchasing the property at auction and said it is his "best investment to date."

The antique fanatic described its late owner as a fun, patient and well-travelled lady - he added has decided to keep her grand piano in her memory.

He revealed what initially drew him into the property to keep her memory going.

Former owner Bette-Joan Rac passed away aged 76 in November 2020.
