Man who became king aged just 3 dies following medical treatment

  • King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV of the Tooro Kingdom in Uganda has died at the age of 34 following medical treatment abroad.
  • Oyo gained global fame as the world's youngest monarch when he was coronated in 1995 at the age of three following his father's death .
  • His death was announced on Friday morning by Prime Minister Calvin Rwomiire Akiiki, causing widespread shock among Ugandans.
  • Tooro Kingdom officials confirmed that the continuity of the Crown is assured and that King Oyo leaves behind a son as his heir.
  • Although Ugandan traditional monarchs hold no political authority, King Oyo served as a prominent guardian of tribal culture for the Batooro people.
