Man waited in his car for 40 hours to win free drinks at Tim Hortons drive-thru

A man has won a year's supply of free drinks after camping out in his car for 40 hours at a drive-thru. Callan Kemp was unsurprisingly the first drive-thru customer at the new Tim Hortons branch in Manchester on Tuesday.

He drove all the way from Mansfield to be first in the queue when the latest store from the Canadian fast food chain opened at 7am. The superfan arrived at the Trafford Park branch at around 4pm on Saturday to help him secure the prize of free drinks every day for a year, the Manchester Evening News reports.

A spokesperson for the chain could not confirm Callan's precise movements for the full 40 hours. But he said: “I believe he stayed in his car until the restaurant’s official opening."

Fellow customer Sam Greenwood pulled off a similar feat of endurance by setting up camp on deckchairs with his partner outside the unopened store at 8pm on Sunday. He also won free drinks every day for a year after becoming the restaurant's first walk-in customer.

The chain, which specialises in breakfasts, pastries, donuts and coffee, is going in for an aggressive expansion plan in the UK. Kevin Hydes, chief commercial officer of Tim Hortons franchises in the UK, said: “The Greater Manchester community has welcomed us with open arms over the years, so we are delighted to now be officially open this two-storey site at Trafford Park.

"We’ve already seen a tremendous turnout and our team can’t wait to welcome guests to this flagship venue with our renowned Canadian offering. This is officially our largest drive-thru in the UK, so wanted to make sure it was a special one.”

The chain operates a total of 60 branches across the UK. Among those are stores in Birmingham, Leicester, Sheffield, Ipswich, Washington, Milton Keynes, London, Derby, Liverpool, Glasgow, Cardiff and Belfast.
