Man Utd transfer in the balance over fears of repeating Arsenal mistake

Manchester United have reportedly cooled their interest in signing Chelsea midfielder N'Golo Kante.

The Red Devils have been linked with a move for the 31-year-old, who has just a year left on his contract and could be allowed to leave the Blues this summer. Erik ten Hag is keen to bolster his midfield and wants to add at least two new players: one attack-minded and the other more defensively-focussed.

The need for new faces in the centre of the park is severe given Nemanja Matic, Paul Pogba and Jesse Lingard are set to depart United when their contracts expire later this month. However, the prospect of Europa League football next season could damage United's hopes of attracting world-class talent to Old Trafford.
