Sofyan Amrabat's agent maintains a move away from Fiorentina can happen amid previous interest from Manchester United.
The Red Devils were keen on the Moroccan, who enjoyed a breakout tournament as the Africans shocked the globe by making the last four at the World Cup recently. It thrust the midfielder into the limelight and Fiorentina became aware they had a pricey asset on their books.
Several sides were keen in January, with more offers expected to come in the summer for the 26-year-old. United themselves are looking to bolster their options in the middle of the pitch, such is their over reliance on Casemiro, who signed from Real Madrid in the summer.
The stats lay bare how much the Red Devils miss the Brazilian, whose recent suspension has coincided with a dip in results. Erik ten Hag has several other options in that area, but few can offer what Casemiro does and, as a result, more recruits may be considered come the summer.
Mohamed Sinouh, Amrabat's agnet, told Kora Plus: "We received more than one offer during the winter window . Including one from Manchester United, but the negotiation was not completed. The president of Fiorentina (Rocco Commisso) absolutely refused to let him leave at that moment. He represented value for the team, especially after what he did in the World Cup.”
He went on to open the door to a move away from Florence for the £35m-rated star: “The future? At the moment we have no offers for the summer. But Fiorentina will listen to the offers. It’s a promise we got from the president after he rejected the offers in the winter transfer market.”
Nordin Amrabat, Sofyan’s older brother, has previously admitted to ESPN that the Premier League attempted to sign the Fiorentina star on loan with an option to buy towards the end of the January transfer window, but their efforts were unsuccessful.
Ten Hag has been forced to deal without summer signing Christian Eriksen, who has been sidelined for months. The Dane had formed an effective partnership with Casemiro in midfield prior to his injury. Marcel Sabitzer was bought in on loan, but hasn't produced the same quality.
Scott McTominay and Fred were both stalwarts during the Ole Gunnar Solskjaer days, but neither command a start like they once did and are seen as squad players. United did have a strong interest in Frenkie De Jong throughout Ten Hag's first summer, but a move for Amrabat may present a more realistic and cheaper opportunity.
