Manchester United are stepping up their efforts to bring free agent Christian Eriksen to Old Trafford.
United are in talks with Eriksen's representatives and are understood to have made a formal offer to the former Tottenham and Inter Milan midfielder. Eriksen also has an offer from Brentford, where he spent the second half of last season, while Spurs, Everton, Newcastle and Leicester are interested.
United have told Eriksen and his agent they are willing to hand the 30-year-old Denmark international a two-year deal worth £150,000-a-week. But Eriksen is waiting to see who United sign this summer before making a decision on his immediate future, with time on his side as a free agent.
Eriksen, who has recovered after suffering a cardiac arrest at Euro 2020 last year, wants to remain in the Premier League and has plenty of offers. Brentford want to keep Eriksen, but it is understood he will join United if they can clinch deals to sign Holland duo Frenkie de Jong and Tyrell Malacia.
United are confident of landing both players in the coming days, which could see them make it a hat-trick if Eriksen decides on a move to Old Trafford. Malacia's £15million move from Feyenoord looked to be in doubt, because the full-back decided to change agents.
United sources have indicated the deal for Malacia “remains on track for completion in the coming days” after the issue with his representation was successfully resolved. Both Feyenoord and United remain committed to the agreement they have struck, which will see the Premier League club pay £13million up front, plus a potential £2m in add-ons.
United are pushing ahead with a £70m deal to land De Jong, who has been offered a five-year deal worth £250,000-a-week that will make him one of the highest paid stars at Old Trafford.
Ten Hag would like his new signings to be part of the travelling party for the pre-season tour of Thailand and Australia, with the squad departing on July 8. Malacia looks almost certain to be part of the pre-season tour group departing for Bangkok and United's first game of the tour, against arch rivals Liverpool, on Kuly 12.
But De Jong may miss the first leg of the tour and could join up with the squad in Melbourne, for their games against Melbourne Victory and Crystal Palace. United then take on Aston Villa in Perth on July 24, before facing Atletico Madrid in Oslo on July 30 and Rayo Vallecano at Old Trafford the following day.
