Man Utd star Cristiano Ronaldo sent constructive criticism about his "siu" celebration

Manchester United superstar Cristiano Ronaldo should perform his trademark celebration less often to "leave the punters wanting more", according to former Liverpool striker Peter Crouch.

Ronaldo, 37, is United's top scorer this season with 15 goals, so the sight of his famous 180-degree spin rounded off with a bellowing "siu" has been a common one in recent months.

The Portugal captain first showcased the celebration at Real Madrid and has continued to use it liberally while playing for Juventus and throughout his second spell with the Red Devils.

Ronaldo last performed it in late December after scoring United's third goal in a Premier League victory over Burnley.

As the five-time Ballon d'Or winner wheeled away towards for the corner flag, the Old Trafford crowd anticipated the celebration with a chorus of "siu" a number of seconds before he actually began his leap.

This has left Crouch concerned as he believes Ronaldo is at risk of tarnishing his celebration by "doing it too often" and being too predictable in the eyes of fans.

The ex-England international knows a thing or two about a much-loved celebration and will forever be associated with the robot dance.

But, remarkably, the 41-year-old only performed the robot three times across his career for club and country. Two of those occasions were on the international stage and the other was when he reached a century of Premier League goals.

Therefore, Crouch believes the route to crafting a celebration which will echo through the ages is to use it sparingly.

Writing in his Daily Mail column, he said: "I mentioned last week that I was doing some football coaching out in Dubai for Football Escapes and it's been a great professional experience.

"I have really enjoyed coaching the kids and my little girl - who has never taken to the game - could not stop playing. She kept coming over to me describing her goals.

"All of them wanted to perfect the Cristiano Ronaldo 'siu' celebration. Now, I have a bit of knowledge in this area. I got them all doing the robot but no, it was all about Ronaldo.

"I think this needs saying as a public service announcement: the key to a good celebration is not doing it too often. You don't want anybody turning round saying: 'Oh, here he goes again.'

"I only did the robot three times on a pitch (more at weddings, obviously!) - in England friendlies against Hungary and Jamaica and, with Stoke, when I scored my 100th Premier League goal.

"You have to save them. Leave the punters wanting more. Think on, Cristiano."
