Man Utd see door open on Victor Osimhen transfer as Napoli make surprise U-turn

Manchester United have seen their hopes of landing Victor Osimhen boosted as Napoli president Aurelio de Laurentiis admitted he will consider offers this summer.

The Nigerian international will not come cheap, but the Napoli chief has explained that the Serie A champions could potentially be tempted by offers that "they cannot refuse".

United have long been linked with Osimhen as Erik ten Hag continues his search for someone to lead the line at Old Trafford. The Red Devils are not the only Premier League giants keeping tabs on Osimhen, with Chelsea also keen on bringing the goal machine to Stamford Bridge next term.

Interest also comes from Bundesliga titans Bayern Munich, but it is widely believed that if Osimhen is to leave Napoli this summer he will only do so for a Premier League outfit.

Fresh off their Serie A title triumph, Napoli confirmed Rudi Garcia as the successor of Luciano Spalletti, who has decided to step away from football for a year following his Scudetto success.

It was during the unveiling of their new manager when de Laurentiis issued an update on the long-running Osimhen transfer saga and did not rule out the idea of his exit should the right amount of money be offered.

The Napoli president explained: "We already talked to Osimhen before the Scudetto celebration, so we already have a basic agreement on a two-year extension of his contract."

However, his tone changed as he added: "I have said for a while that Osimhen has to stay. Then, if an offer came in that I could not refuse for the good of Napoli, then we would consider it, as is only natural."

His recent remarks represent a significant change from his previous stance on the situation when asked about the odds of Osimhen of joining the Red Devils back in May.

"I will not sell Victor Osimhen this summer - no way!" De Laurentiis told Rai Sport.

Whether the offer that de Laurentiis' alludes to will come in remains to be seen, but United could be tempted given their pursuit of first-choice target Harry Kane is thought to be all but over.

With that being said, it is over due to Tottenham demanding an astronomical fee, which means it is unlikely Ten Hag's side will be willing to fork out an overwhelming amount on their back-up target in Osimhen.

Chelsea, on the other hand, could be a more likely destination for the 24-year-old given the Blues are expected to make a significant sum from outgoings.

Hakim Ziyech is in talks with Saudi Arabian outfit Al-Nassr, while Edouard Mendy is on the verge of putting pen to paper on a deal with Al-Ahli.
