Manchester United are arguably the biggest club in world football and with that comes the ability to both buy superstars and make them from the ground up.
Back in 2012, the Red Devils had 11 players on their books that were placed on Football Manager's list of 100 wonderkids. All 11 had the world at their feet, plying their trade for United under the guidance of Sir Alex Ferguson but not all of them forged the career that was expected of them.
United have produced some of the game's greatest, with the likes of David Beckham, Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs all emerging from the Red Devils' academy while other superstars such as Wayne Rooney have been purchased early on and been nurtured and developed at Old Trafford.
With that in mind, Mirror Football has analysed the careers of all 11 players dubbed 'wonderkids' a decade ago while still at United. Some remain in the red half of Manchester to this day, while others have long been strutting their stuff overseas.
David de Gea
HAVE YOUR SAY! Is David de Gea a Man Utd legend? Comment below
The Spanish keeper has had the best career while at United of all the players on this list given he has occupied the number one shirt for the overwhelming majority of his 11-year stay at the club and won one Premier League title, an FA Cup, League Cup and Europa League.
Still a key part of the first team, De Gea has gone on to earn a reputation as one of the best goalkeeper's in the world during his time with United, but there have been some undeniable low points throughout his lengthy tenure.
He is one of the few players that can come away from the current season with any kind of credit. While his footwork and ability with the ball may be a cause for concern to some, he is without doubt one of the Premier League's best shot-stoppers.
Phil Jones
Much like De Gea, Jones remains at the club and even featured for United in their most recent outing away at Liverpool.
However, the fact it was just his second Premier League start should tell you everything you need to know about how Jones' United career has actually gone. The former Blackburn defender has fallen some way short of realising Ferguson's ambition of becoming the club's best-ever player.
Injuries have hampered Jones, but even when fit the former England international has been well below the standard required at times. With that being said, he also boasts a Premier League winner's medal from Ferguson's last season at the helm.
Rafael
One of the two Brazilian twins to join United in 2008, Rafael was actually wanted by United's Premier League rivals Arsenal but ignored interest from North London.
The defender's first goal for the club ironically came at the Emirates, a stunning volley in a 2-1 defeat by the Gunners. Hilariously, Rafael was once booked for a foul committed by his twin Fabio - a decision that was later overturned after an understandable case of mistaken identity.
After seven years in Manchester, Rafael upped sticks to French side Lyon in 2015 before moves to Istanbul Basakehir and Botafogo subsequently followed.
Fabio
Rafael's twin sibling, Fabio actually enjoyed a longer career in England than his brother but featured far less for United.
An injury on his debut was a fitting start for the Brazilian given so much of his time at United would be spent on the treatment table. The exact same thing occurred on his Champions League debut for the club.
The defender was eventually lured away from Old Trafford by a United legend in the form of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer who was at the time in charge of Cardiff City. It was during this period that Fabio enjoyed his best spell in England, becoming a fan-favourite in Wales.
Paul Pogba
Few players in United's recent history have been quite as divisive as the French World Cup winner, with Pogba boasting supreme talent but guilty of using it so sparingly.
Pogba actually left United in the summer of 2012 after being enticed by the bright lights of Juventus, but his love affair at Old Trafford was far from over.
Just four years later, United paid a club-record fee of £89m to bring Pogba back to Manchester - but that move has failed to reach the lofty expectations many had for him.
Signed to be the poster boy of a United returned to their former glories, Pogba has instead been the face of the club's demise and is now on course to leave the club for a second time for nothing following the expiration of his mega-money contract. Real Madrid look set to be the next club to take a chance on the 29-year-old.
Ravel Morrison
As a teenager, it is reported that Ravel Morrison was the best player Sir Alex Ferguson had ever seen in his age group according to fellow club legend Rio Ferdinand.
Morrison has struggled to find a place to call home within football since his departure from Old Trafford in 2012 - donning the shirt of a stunning 11 other clubs across the globe in a decade.
Off-field struggles have at times threatened to curtail Morrison's career entirely, but the Jamaican international can now be found at Derby County under the guidance of United legend Wayne Rooney.
Davide Petrucci
Once dubbed the 'next Francesco Totti, Petrucci came nowhere near to fulfilling the kind of potential he displayed as a youngster.
The Italian midfielder failed to make a single appearance for the Red Devils' first team despite being on the books of the club for five years.
Petrucci simply struggled to take to English football, his loan spell with Charlton particularly underwhelming. Now, at the grand old age of 30, the former United prospect can be found in Israel plying his trade for Hapoel Be'er Sheva after penning a two-year deal last summer.
Dan ny Welbeck
While Welbeck failed to cement his status as a United legend after being spotted by his boyhood club aged just six, he is still remembered fondly around the red half of Manchester.
That is quite the feat considering Welbeck actually called time on his Old Trafford to stay to go and join fierce Rivals Arsenal in 2014.
The forward spent five years with the Gunners, scoring a memorable last gasp winner against Leicester that had the Emirates faithful dreaming of a Premier League title.
As the 31-year-old nears the twilight of an injury prone career, he can now be found on the south coast leading the line for Graham Potter's Brighton.
Federico Macheda
Macheda announced himself in the most spectacular fashion with a stunning injury-time winner at home to Aston Villa but failed to ever reach that high again in a United shirt.
Born in Rome, the forward has spent plenty of time in the lower leagues of the English football pyramid.
Queens Park Rangers, Doncaster Rovers, Birmingham City, Cardiff City and Nottingham Forest have all seen Macheda in their front line at some stage over the last 10 years.
The Italian is currently in the midst of his longest spell at one club since leaving United with Greek giants Panathinaikos.
Mats Daehli
One of two players on this list to have failed to actually make a senior appearance for United, Daehli was sold to Molde before he had the chance to strut his stuff in front of the Old Trafford faithful.
His departure came as a surprise considering he had won the Jimmy Murphy Young Player of the Year award at United for his efforts in the reserve team the summer prior to his exit in 2013.
Daehli is clearly highly thought of by one United legend in Solskjaer, who purchased him twice over the course of his career - once for Molde, before again with Cardiff City.
Adnan Januzaj
After netting a brace that inspired a 2-1 victory away at Sunderland on what was his first start for United in 2013, many tipped Januzaj to go on to achieve big things at Old Trafford.
He was rewarded with a five-year contract extension and even made the shortlist for the BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year award. Januzaj inherited the vacant number 11 shirt left by Ryan Giggs.
Unfortunately for the Belgian international, the entirety of the 2014/15 season passed him by without a single goal across any competition. He could muster just one goal in the 2015/16 season before he was loaned out to Borussia Dortmund.
Another loan followed at Sunderland before Januzaj left Manchester for good and signed a five-year deal with La Liga outfit Real Sociedad where he remains to this day.
