Manchester United are still interested in Brentford goalkeeper David Raya and could hijack Tottenham Hotspur's move for the 27-year-old.
Raya has been heavily linked with a move this summer, having impressed for Brentford since their promotion from the Championship in 2021. The Spaniard only has one year left on his current deal and has rejected offers of an extension.
Brentford also appear to have already signed Raya's replacement, having forked out £11m to sign Mark Flekken from Bundesliga side Freiburg. Both United and Spurs are in the market for a new goalkeeper this summer and Brentford boss Thomas Frank has publicly stated the club wants a fee of around £40m for Raya.
"David has been amazing for us," Frank said. "He has done fantastic. I think he is one of the best goalkeepers in this league right now. He is one of the captains.
"He is leading with his performances and behaviour every day. He must be worth at least £40m. If he had three years it would be £70m."
Erik ten Hag is keen to sign a new goalkeeper this summer regardless of whether or not David de Gea remains at Old Trafford, having refused to give any guarantees that he will remain his first-choice.
"I will not say he'll always be my No.1 because in a club like Man United there must be competition in all positions," Ten Hag told The Times last month. "You can't do it with 11 players. It is impossible. You need double positions."
Tottenham, meanwhile, are searching for a replacement for club captain Hugo Lloris who has indicated he wants to leave this summer amid interest from the Saudi Pro League. "We are coming to an important moment, whether for the club or for me," Lloris told French newspaper Nice-Matin.
"It's the end of an era. I have desires for other things, I will ask myself quietly to study what will be possible." And The Telegraph claim that Tottenham are currently 'in pole position' to sign Raya, but are reluctant to meet the £40m asking price and a deal is not imminent.
As a result, the report states that United could make a move later on in the window if Spurs are unable to finalise the transfer. United are said to be 'prioritising signings in attack and midfield' first, before turning their attention to a goalkeeper.
