Man Utd offered chance to complete second Real Madrid transfer after Casemiro deal

Manchester United could be set to add to their £59m signing of Casemiro with a move for his former Real Madrid colleague Marco Asensio.

The Red Devils sealed a big money deal for the Brazilian last week, with the midfielder having been presented before the Old Trafford crowd ahead of Monday evening’s thrilling victory over Liverpool. In joining the Red Devils, he has been reunited with a number of his former Real Madrid teammates Raphael Varane and Cristiano Ronaldo.

A third could potentially be set to join him ahead of next week’s transfer deadline. As per The Telegraph, United have been offered the chance to move for Spanish international Asensio.

The winger looks set to leave the Santiago Bernabeu sooner rather than later with reports suggesting that the Red Devils were made aware of his availability before they completed a move for Casemiro. It is thought that the Spanish giants would demand in the region of €30m (£25.3m) for Asensio, who could be a far cheaper option than first-choice target Antony.

The Red Devils continue to chase the services of the Brazilian international but his current club Ajax are refusing to budge on his €100m (£84.5m) price-tag - hence why Asensio could potentially be an attractive option.

A three-time Champions League winner, the 26-year-old arrived at Real Madrid in 2015 from Mallorca and, after sparkling on-loan at Espanyol, was rewarded with a place in the first-team. Since then, he has gone on to make 236 appearances for the reigning Spanish champions, managing to find the net on 49 occasions including 12 in all competitions last season.

Asensio is out of contract next summer and would be eligible to leave the club on a free transfer - hence why Real might be open to letting him leave over the next week or so whilst they can still receive a considerable transfer fee for his signature.

It is not the first time that he has been linked with a move to the Premier League with Arsenal and Chelsea having been credited as admirers in the past. In the meantime, Newcastle United have been noted as potential suitors this summer with Eddie Howe still remaining keen on adding to his forward positions at St James’ Park - albeit a record move for Real Sociedad’s Alexander Isak could see the prospect of a move parked.

Asensio previously admitted earlier this summer that he could be forced to look for a new challenge sooner rather than later. Speaking with AS, he said: “I have one more year in my contract yet here we are talking about me leaving Real Madrid.

"This is an important moment for me, I will not deny it. I am more mature and not only on the field, this is an important moment and I will have to make important decisions.

“Me and my family know that I have to keep growing and moving forward. I want to achieve important things in football and they help me do that.”
