Man Utd news: “Imminent” transfer exit as Erik ten Hag handed striker boost

Manchester United have found their stride under Erik ten Hag this season but the biggest challenge is to remain consistent throughout the rest of the campaign.

The Red Devils have been handed a major boost in doing just that, with Anthony Martial finally set to return from his third injury of the season ahead of Thursday’s Europa League duties as United aim for top spot in their group. Elsewhere, one player is set for an “imminent” transfer after the World Cup, while another’s long-term status remains in doubt.

Mirror Football takes a look at all the latest stories coming out of Old Trafford.

Anthony Martial injury boost

Man United forward Martial could be fit enough in time to feature for the Red Devils against Real Sociedad in their final group stage game.

The Frenchman has missed 13 of United’s 17 games this season with three separate injuries, having been touted as the leading marksman after an impressive pre-season. Nonetheless, he could be about to make his fifth appearance of the campaign later this week.

The Red Devils must defeat Real Sociedad by two or more goals to top the group and secure an immediate place in the round of 16, otherwise they face the prospect of taking on the likes of Barcelona and Juventus in a knockout round play-off if they fail to do so.

Man Utd transfer exit “imminent”

Man United youngster Facundo Pellistri is set for an “imminent” transfer away from the club in January immediately after the World Cup.

That’s according to his agent Edgardo Lasalvia, who is determined to find a better situation for Pellistri after the Uruguayan has failed to break into the first team and be awarded the minutes he was “promised” upon signing for the Red Devils from Penarol in 2020.

The winger is expected to be part of Uruguay's World Cup squad next month, despite struggling for game time, with Lasalvia telling ESPN : "I think that with a good World Cup, as we think it will have, his departure is imminent.

Diogo Dalot’s future in question

Portuguese right back Diogo Dalot has had a complete change of fortunes at Old Trafford this season since Ten Hag’s arrival but there is still plenty of uncertainty over his long-term future.

Dalot has been a nailed on starter ahead of Aaron Wan-Bissaka this campaign but his current deal runs out next summer, and now his agent Jorge Mendes has ‘endorsed’ his exit away from the north west upon the expiring of his contract.

United do hold the option to trigger a one-year extension in Dalot’s contract, but Mundo Deportivo via Sport Witness claim that Mendes has 'personally endorsed’ the idea of Dalot joining Barcelona next year, having already offered his client to the LaLiga giants.
