Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag is already in the midst of getting his squad prepared for this week’s Europa League clash with Real Betis.
The Dutchman was left furious at the weekend as the Red Devils fell to a 7-0 defeat to fierce rivals Liverpool and he made his displeasure well known. Whether his anger gets the side refocused ahead of Thursday evening remains to be seen.
In the meantime, the takeover process at Old Trafford continues to rumble on with Sir Jim Ratcfliffe and Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani progressing to the next stage of talks. With all of that being said, Mirror Football has rounded up the latest Man Utd news below.
Weghorst risks Man Utd wrath
On-loan Red Devils’ striker Wout Weghorst has risked the wrath of the Old Trafford faithful during United’s mauling at the hands of Liverpool. Footage emerged of the forward touching the famous ‘This Is Anfield’ sign before Sunday’s destruction on Merseyside.
He was joined by the likes of Liverpool stars Virgil van Dijk, Cody Gakpo and Trent Alexander-Arnold all doing the same. Weghorst has actually admitted to being a Liverpool fan in the past but that did not pacify fans in the aftermath of the defeat.
A whole host of supporters took to social media with their complaints after the full-time whistle.
Ian Wright makes Fernandes claim
Arsenal icon Ian Wright has claimed that Bruno Fernandes ’ long-term future as Man Utd captain could potentially be in jeopardy under Ten Hag. Speaking in the aftermath of the Liverpool defeat, he said: "The captain is a special person in there.
“When you watch someone like Roy Keane, a performance like that must hurt him deeply with what he’s had to go through to get to that accolade, to see a Man United captain do that playing as if he’s got the world on his shoulders and not inspiring his teammates to try and salvage something.
"To see the captain like that, he [Fernandes] cannot be… the way Ten Hag has set that team up he doesn’t fit in the mould of Ten Hag and how he wants his team to go forward.”
