Man Utd news: Erik ten Hag's three-man transfer shortlist to replace Wout Weghorst

It's been a season of revival for Manchester United under Erik ten Hag.

The Red Devils are on course to qualify for the Champions League - sitting third in the Premier League - and ended their six-year trophy drought by winning the Carabao Cup last month, with more silverware potentially on the way. Ten Hag's side will face Brighton and Sevilla in the FA Cup semi-final and the Europa League quarter-final respectively.

Yet the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo by mutual consent in November has left Ten Hag searching for a new centre-forward, as there are huge doubts over loan star Wout Weghorst. With that in mind, here are the latest headlines from Old Trafford.

Ferguson enters Hall of Fame

Iconic United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has been inducted in the Premier League Hall of Fame alongside Arsenal hero Arsene Wenger.

Ferguson and Wenger are the first two managers to be inducted into the exclusive club, which was established two years ago. "I'm truly delighted to be inducted into the Premier League Hall of Fame," Ferguson said. "It's an honour when you receive recognition like this.

"However, it's not just about me as a person. It’s about the job at Manchester United and the bond we had over many years, so I'm also proud for the club, the staff and my players.

"My job was to send the fans home happy. United's history and my own expectations were the things that drove me, and I then had to try to develop all my players with the same expectations and make sure we could go out and achieve them."

United's transfer shortlist

Harry Kane is United's main transfer target this summer, but Ten Hag has lined up Randal Kolo Muani and Rasmus Hojlund as back-ups.

Kane, 29, is about to enter the final year of his Tottenham contract and it hoped he could be signed for around £80million, although Tottenham chair Daniel Levy is a notoriously tough negotiator. As such, United may be forced to look elsewhere.

If that happens, they will go after Kolo Muani, 24, and Holjund, 20. Eintracht Frankfurt star Kolo Muani represented France at the World Cup in Qatar, while Atalanta ace Holjund scored five goals in two games for Denmark during the recent international break.

Weghorst under fire

United's current centre-forward Weghorst has been told he's not good enough to play for Ten Hag's side by Ruud Gullit.

Weghorst, 30, joined the Red Devils on loan from Burnley in January to fill the void left by Ronaldo. He's started every game since that transfer but has not scored a single goal in the Premier League. As such, Ten Hag will look elsewhere in the summer.

Former Premier League manager Gullit told Ziggo Sport, "I always look at him in a weird way, I have a lot of admiration for him, but at the same time, I think... he is not good enough for Manchester United and the Orange. Every now and then you see defects."
