Erik ten Hag has decided on the player he wants to become his first signing as Manchester United manager.
The incoming United boss is set to target Feyenoord's Dutch defender Tyrell Malacia – who has been nicknamed the 'pitbull' in his home country because of his tenacious approach. Ten Hag previously tried to sign the defender for current club Ajax although Feyenoord resisted the move because of the rivalry between the two sides.
It comes as Ralf Rangnick's new role with the Austria national team could help United bring in midfielder target Konrad Laimer. And the interim United boss cancelled a training session on Friday amid reports of further dressing room unrest.

Rangnick 'cancels' training session
Ralf Rangnick cancelled a recovery session for his Manchester United players following the 1-1 draw with Chelsea, according to reports.
Cristiano Ronaldo lashed home an equaliser two minutes after Marcos Alonso’s volley as United drew 1-1 with the Blues on Thursday night. And reports have claimed United players were due at their Carrington training ground for a recovery session the following day before Rangnick gave them the day off instead.
It comes amid fresh reports of unrest within the United dressing room - and it is also claimed Rangnick barely uttered a single word to his players following the defeat at Arsenal.
Rangnick can help land Laimer
Ralf Rangnick's new role with the Austria national team could help Manchester United land midfield target Konrad Laimer.
The Austria international only has one more year left on his contract at German side RB Leipzig, having arrived at the club while Rangnick was sporting director. And the German could use the relationship he's built with Laimer to help persuade him to move to United this summer.
He is said to be valued at £23million and at the age of 29, would arrive at Old Trafford in his prime. That could give Erik ten Hag a ready-made option in the middle of the park while they hunt for a long-term replacement.
Ten Hag eyes Malacia
Erik ten Hag wants Tyrell Malacia to become his first signing at Manchester United.
The Dutch defender could be available for £20million this summer and would help provide a boost to United's backline. United sent scouts to watch the left-back in action during Feyenoord's 3-2 win over Marseille in the first leg of the Europa Conference semi-finals on Thursday night.
Malacia was particularly impressive during the encounter, and could now be signed to help Ten Hag implement his style of football at Old Trafford.
