Manchester United suffered a 1-0 defeat at West Ham on Sunday evening as their hopes of a top four finish in the Premier League suffered a blow.
Erik ten Hag’s side are one point ahead of fifth-placed Liverpool having played one game fewer, but there is now a real possibility that they could blow their position in the race which had looked a formality until back-to-back defeats.
Another costly error from David de Gea, who let in Said Benrahma’s tame long-range effort, once again threw the goalkeeper’s future into the spotlight. De Gea is out of contract this summer and there are renewed suggestions that the club should allow him to leave.
Here, Mirror Football rounds up the latest news from the red half of Manchester.
De Gea sent contract warning
BT Sport pundits Rio Ferdinand and Peter Crouch have suggested Manchester United allow David de Gea to leave the club at the end of his contract this summer.
That has been refuted by boss Ten Hag, who insists he wants De Gea to stay and pen a new deal at Old Trafford. The first offer was not accepted by the Spaniard.
The question now is whether United view the goalkeeper as next season’s number one or if another goalkeeper will arrive to provide competition for his starting spot.

Greenwood handed transfer ‘lifeline’
Mason Greenwood looks increasingly likely to leave Manchester United this summer with the forward believing his days at the club are numbered.
Juventus are thought to be extremely interested in a move for Greenwood but the Italian giants are set to face competition from domestic rivals AC Milan and Roma, along with Turkish clubs. Juve are thought to believe Paul Pogba may be able to influence his former teammate to move to Turin.
Greenwood is still suspended by United and he will not be returning to their Carrington training ground or featuring in fixtures until the club have conducted their own investigation, but recent indications appear to suggest that the forward will have to play his football elsewhere.

United ramp up Frimpong pursuit
Manchester United are in advanced talks to sign Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen this summer.
So advanced is the Red Devils interest in the Dutch right-back, it is claimed that Real Madrid have acknowledged they moved for the player too late, and will instead move for another right-back – with Diogo Dalot among those on their radar.
As for United, their summer budget is unclear due to the uncertainty over the club’s takeover – but Frimpong is a key target.
