Man Utd loanee Amad tipped for "big, big money" transfer by Sunderland boss Tony Mowbray

Amad has been tipped to leave Manchester United for “big, big money” and join a "top" Spanish club.

Sunderland boss Tony Mowbray reckons the winger is ready for a higher level, and if he’s not getting games back at his parent club Manchester United, he will leave for a top league. Amad, 20, has been brilliant for Sunderland on loan this season, and he netted a great individual goal, his 12th of the season, to win the game and keep the Mackem play-off hopes alive.

He was signed for £19m by United from Atalanta, is growing in confidence at the Stadium of Light and secured the win in the 75th minute - his fifth goal in the last seven games. Mowbray says it is “pretty unlikely” Amad will be back at Sunderland next season, but won’t give up hope.

In an honest assessment of where the winger goes next, Mowbray had some advice for Old Trafford bosses. He said: “I have a good feeling for Amad that if he’s not back at United he will go for big, big money to a top Spanish team.

“He loves football and wants to play so what do you do if you are at Manchester United?

“Are you happy just to be a Manchester United player and play six sub appearances and two starts over a season of 60 games for them? Or do you want to go out and play?

“So are they going to sell him? If they do they will want to recoup their money which was reputedly 40 euros or whatever it was.

“The reality is he won’t be coming here, in my mind, unless they think he is going to be one hell of a player and needs to play, or he enjoys Sunderland and should keep going to play for them.

"That would be the ideal scenario for us. Pretty unlikely I would suggest, but you never know because if they see him as genuinely someone who can play in their first team down the line they could keep him on board.

“I would suggest they would try him at another level and he’d go (on loan) to the Premier League, or go back to Italy or Seria A or Spain. But let’s hope he is playing at Sunderland and banging in goals. There is a better chance if we are in the Premier League, he is playing against Premier League teams.”

Mowbray has helped develop many kids, and says Amad has to be challenged to kick on. He added: “How good is he? It comes down to that grown mindset. He needs to be constantly challenged.

“My fear would be at this club he feels as if he is the top player, a top player, and how quickly can everyone else get to the level.

“That is why I play Patrick Roberts around him. He is amazing with the ball and doesn’t give it away. He feels he can do what he wants with the ball but if he lends it to him he might not get it back. It is magic watching them both.”
