Cristiano Ronaldo's request to leave Manchester United has been followed by an absence from pre-season training for two days running as speculation continues over his future at club level.
The 37-year-old is thought to have told the Red Devils hierarchy last week that he wishes to call time on his United return just 12 months into the two-year contract he penned last summer. His desire to leave is thought to stem from his view that the club have not matched his level of ambition in the transfer market so far.
This is despite the fact United have secured the signing of Tyrell Malacia and are on the verge of a deal with Christen Eriksen, while still in the race for both Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong and Ajax defender Lisandro Martinez. The saga surrounding Ronaldo has taken yet another twist in the last few days.
