Man Utd dressing room make dramatic U-turn over Erik ten Hag appointment

Diogo Dalot insists the Manchester United squad are excited to work under Erik ten Hag despite claims there has been an underwhelming response to his appointment.

The Dutchman will become United's new boss at the end of the season and his ability to play attacking football and his previous experience of rebuilding squads is why he was the club's preferred choice with a huge overhaul required at Old Trafford in the coming years.

There are expected to be as many as 12 departures this summer with several players unsettled at the club due to the disharmony in the dressing room dating back to the start of the season under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. It appears not much has changed since Ralf Rangnick took over on an interim basis based on what was reported in regards to the squad's initial response to Ten Hag's appointment.

The Guardian claimed the Dutchman's arrival has had a mixed reception from the United squad, with some players 'ambivalent and others underwhelmed.' Mirror Football exclusively revealed during United's search for a new manager that Mauricio Pochettino was the dressing room's choice to take over from Rangnick.

Dalot is the first player to speak out about Ten Hag's arrival and has contradicted those reports, however, insisting the squad is looking forward to working under the Ajax boss.

The full-back is glad that there is clarity over who will be in charge next season and has hailed the attractive football his Ajax sides have displayed over the years, including their memorable run to the Champions League semi-final in 2019.

Dalot told Sky Sports: "In our heads, it's going to be clear who the manager will be next season and that's good, because we go for our break ... knowing who to expect. Then we'll have time in pre-season to work together (with Ten Hag), get our ideas right and start the new season.

"What he's done with Ajax is something outstanding, especially the season in the Champions League. He has very attractive football. I think every fan of #mufc is excited to have a manager like this, we as the players as well."

Rangnick will take on a two-year consultancy role, as well as being in charge of Austria, as he moves upstairs to assist the transitional period United are about to embark on. The German is positive that Ten Hag is the man to turn the club's fortunes around.

He said on Ten Hag's imminent arrival: "Knowing Erik will be the manager, with a good recruitment process and bringing in the right players, I'm very positive the supporters and the media will be able to see a better team and, at the end, hopefully a better position in the league."
