Manchester United are closing in on the £46million signing of Ajax defender Lisandro Martinez.
Ajax have accepted they cannot keep hold of the Argentina international, who has told them of his desire to move to Old Trafford. United are understood to have submitted an improved bid for Martinez, 24, which sources claim Ajax are ready to accept.
The Dutch club have already begun the process of recruiting a replacement for Martinez, with Mykola Matviyenko of Shakhtar Donetsk one option. United’s imminent capture of Martinez means departures for Eric Bailly, Axel Tuanzebe and Phil Jones, to ensure Erik ten Hag’s squad is not overloaded with centre-backs.
