Man Utd agree first transfer of window - but it's not Mason Mount

Manchester United are closing in on their first deal of the summer transfer window with Watford wonderkid Harry Amass agreeing a move to Old Trafford.

The Red Devils have been considering a move for the 16-year-old fullback for some time and appear to be edging towards securing his services. He is considered one of the brightest young talents in the English game right now and United would have to dig into their pockets to sign him.

Due to him being under the age 18, the Red Devils would have to pay Watford compensation. The Hornets would be keen to keep Amass at Vicarage Road and have attempted to tie the defender down to professional terms with the youngster having already signed an early scholarship deal with the club.

They had offered him a two-year professional contract with Watford but according to the Manchester Evening News, Amass' move has been agreed ahead of a switch.

He looks likely to be handed a role in the club’s academy set-up having already made an impact for the Hornets over the last few seasons. He has already made appearances for the club’s under 18 and under 21 teams and was also an unused substitute for the first team during a clash with Reading in the FA Cup back in January.

Amass has also been given opportunities on the international front and was seen as a potential first-team player with the Hornets. He is also likely to feature with the England U17’s during the upcoming World Cup.

The news will be a huge boost to Erik ten Hag who has consistently seen his transfer plans scuppered throughout the summer. The ongoing takeover situation at the club has dragged attention away from the club’s recruitment this summer, whilst they have also seen deals for a number of players cast aside.

Tottenham striker Harry Kane was among the club’s prime targets for the summer transfer window but the Red Devils have already been forced to abandon their interest due to Daniel Levy’s high demands. Meanwhile, their swoop for Chelsea star Mason Mount has ended in frustration after seeing three bids turned down for the midfielder.

They are now looking at alternatives to the midfielder including Brighton star Moises Caicedo.

Meanwhile, the Red Devils could look to generate funds by selling off a few members of their current squad.

It has been reported that the likes of Jadon Sancho, Harry Maguire and Anthony Martial could be among 13 players that Ten Hag would be willing to cash-in on this summer. Prices for the trio have already been decided, the same being said for all of those that United could cut loose this summer.
