The FA Cup fourth round kicks off tonight as Manchester United take on Middlesbrough at Old Trafford.
While, on paper, it’s a fairly favourable fixture, Ralf Rangnick has struggled to wholly convince at Old Trafford. Prior to the recent international break, his team did appear to be building somewhat of a head of steam, although there were large patches of their consecutive wins against Brentford and West Ham that flattered to deceive.
Still, the FA Cup is perhaps the most realistic of trophies United can win this season. While they remain in the Champions League, little about their performances this season suggest they are ready to conquer in Europe. Winning the world’s oldest cup competition and finishing in the top four might yet save this season from being an utter write off.
Standing in their way, however, are a Boro side reborn under Chris Wilder. One of the most upwardly mobile sides in the Championship since his appointment, they’re not to be taken lightly.

Man United vs Middlesbrough
An up-and-at-them Championship side, Middlesbrough look like the worst kind of opposition (in terms of style) to a United team who are yet to show much in the way of a coherent style. Still, their individual quality simply cannot be matched by Friday’s opponents.
Man United to win 3-1.
