Man United told Ole Gunnar Solskjaer sacking a mistake with players 'worse' under Ralf Rangnick

Danny Murphy has blasted the Manchester United players following their draw with Southampton, claiming they're worse under Ralf Rangnick than Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Southampton became the latest team to take points off the Reds in winning positions.

Jadon Sancho broke his duck at Old Trafford with the opening goal but similar problems rose to the surface as they failed to build on the early openings.

For Murphy, he believes United have become worse under interim manager Ralf Rangnick.

He told talkSPORT: "Rangnick's gone in there and under Ole, they were bad without the ball, you could play against them too easily, concede too many goals, that's fair but they're getting worse.

"This is where leadership comes in [players 'downing tools'], they don't down tools. You subconsciously don't give everything or switch on the same because the repercussions from the manager aren't there. I said this about Ole.

"You can use stats however you want [75 shots in three games] this Manchester United 'not getting' beat they're drawing against the bottom of the league [and] have only won once, Burnley.

"For a period in the second half against Middlesbrough, they had plenty of chances conceded against them.

"They're not running around, the way they set up, three in midfield - McTominay on his own - Fernandes and Pogba ahead of him. The Southampton midfield, I've never seen them have that much freedom, that much possession, they could've scored five in the second half.

"I don't think they're better, no [than they were under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer]."
