Man United takeover: Glazer brother and INEOS chief 'to join Jim Ratcliffe on new football board'

Sir Jim Ratcliffe is reportedly preparing to set up a new three-man 'football committee' to oversee the Manchester United team as he closes in on a £1.3billion investment in the club.

A deal to buy a 25 per-cent stake in the Red Devils is progressing with it said the British billionaire will be responsible for the on-pitch results should he complete the deal with the Glazers.

United fans have been hoping to see the back of the unpopular owners for some time but Ratcliffe, 71, appears to be ready to keep them on board for the time being after ousting Qatari Sheikh Jassim in a takeover bidding war.

According to Sky Sports, current executive co-chairman Joel Glazer would have a place on the committee.

Sir Dave Brailsford, a long-term ally of Ratcliffe's, would also be brought into the club.

Former cycling guru Brailsford, 59, made his name by overseeing Team GB's Olympic success in the sport before working at Team Sky, helping Bradley Wiggins, Geraint Thomas and Chris Froome win the Tour de France.

He remained part of the team when Ratcliffe's INEOS took over as chief sponsor in 2019 and, two years later, he became the firm's director of sport.

That has brought him into football for the first time in his career, with French club Nice who have a mixed record in the transfer market and on the pitch in recent years.

Fans are now eagerly awaiting the next update on United's prospective minority shareholder with INEOS delivering a credit update on Monday afternoon, which may feature news on the deal for the Premier League giants.
