Manchester United are one of a number of Premier League clubs said to be monitoring French attacker Antoine Griezmann with a view to a potential January swoop.
The Athletic claims that United looked into the possibility of signing Griezmann in the summer only to switch targets.
The 31-year-old is in his second spell at Atletico Madrid but this season has seen him restricted to a bit-part role, similar to that of Cristiano Ronaldo at United. Griezmann has made seven appearances for Diego Simeone's side but each has come from the substitutes' bench.

He is currently on a two-year loan from parent club Barcelona but his future is far from certain.
Elsewhere, French publication Per Jeunesfooteux says United could also be about to swoop for another Atletico player once his contract expires.
Goalkeeper Jan Oblak has long been linked with a Premier League move and his contract expires this summer. The 29-year-old is considered by many to be one of the best goalkeepers in the world.
