While Manchester United were being frustrated by Watford at Old Trafford on Saturday, some of their loanees weren’t faring much better.
It proved to be a tough weekend for many of the players currently plying their trade away from United, with Amad among those left frustrated once again at Rangers.
It wasn’t all bad for United’s loanees though, with James Garner among those impressing once again as he sent another reminder to his parent club, while Donny van de Beek caught the eye among the supporters.
Here’s a round-up of how United’s loanees got on for their respective clubs over the weekend.
Anthony Martial
Martial missed out on Sevilla’s 2-1 win over Real Betis on Sunday after limping off during the draw with Espanyol the week previous.
Julen Lopetegui has suggested though that the French forward could be back sooner than expected, and will be keeping his fingers crossed for a speedy return.
Donny van de Beek
Van de Beek impressed once again for Everton as they gave Manchester City a scare at Goodison Park.
The midfielder contributed to a fine first half display from the Toffees before being forced off with a knock with 20 minutes to go, with City eventually prevailing 1-0.
Amad
Amad’s frustrating time up in Glasgow continues after a week without any action for Rangers.
Having been left on the bench against Borussia Dortmund in the Europa League, the 19-year-old also went unused in the 2-2 draw against Motherwell on Sunday.
Brandon Williams
Williams started once again for Norwich on Friday, but he couldn’t do anything to prevent them from suffering another blow in their battle against relegation.
The Canaries fell to a 2-0 defeat at Southampton to leave them rooted to the bottom of the table, with five points now separating them from safety.
Axel Tuanzebe
Tuanzebe failed to make Napoli’s matchday squad against Lazio on Sunday as he looks to make his comeback following a back injury.
Like some of his other team-mates, the defender has endured a tough time out on loan, and there are reports in Italy that Napoli are already looking at potential replacements for him.
James Garner
While some of his team-mates struggle, Garner sent another timely reminder of his capabilities with another goal at the weekend.
The midfielder scored the all-important second in Nottingham Forest’s 2-0 win over Bristol City, leaving United fans to look on in envy.
Di’Shon Bernard
Despite impressing earlier in the season for Hull, Bernard found himself left on the bench on Saturday.
And he missed out on a big win for his side, with the Tigers beating Peterborough 3-0 to ease their relegation fears.
Dylan Levitt
It wasn’t a great weekend for Levitt, who was forced off with an injury during Dundee United’s 1-1 draw against Aberdeen at the weekend.
The midfielder limped off during the closing stages, with his manager Tam Courts admitting they were being “quite cautious” with the injury.
Tahith Chong
Chong made his return from injury for Birmingham on Saturday, coming off the bench during the Blues’ 2-0 defeat to Huddersfield.
And fellow loanee Teden Mengi was in the crowd to watch him in action, and send a touching message to his team-mate upon his return.
Ethan Laird
Laird was finally able to make his debut for Bournemouth on Saturday, having made the switch from Swansea in January.
The full-back came off the bench to help the Cherries to a 2-1 win over Stoke, and boost their hopes of a return to the Premier League.
Nathan Bishop
Bishop picked up a clean sheet as Mansfield inflicted defeat on former United forward Mark Hughes in his first game in charge of Bradford City.
The Stags won the game 2-0 to move them within three points of the automatic promotion spots in League Two.
Facundo Pellistri
Pellistri made his first appearance in five games for Alaves at the weekend after coming off the bench in their 2-2 draw with Getafe.
The Uruguay international made a five-minute cameo off the bench, having been unused in recent games against Real Madrid and Valencia.
