Man United issue fresh Cristiano Ronaldo and Edinson Cavani injury update ahead of Tottenham game

Ralf Rangnick has provided a new injury update on Edinson Cavani and Cristiano Ronaldo ahead of today's clash between Manchester United and Tottenham.

Ronaldo missed last weekend's defeat to Manchester City with a hip flexor issue. Meanwhile, Cavani has missed the last six matches with a groin injury.

At yesterday's press conference, before that day's training, Rangnick said he would take a look at both men in Friday's group session but expected both men to be available to face Spurs. Speaking after the session, the interim United boss told MUTV: " Edi was training last week and Cristiano had his first training session yesterday and he will be training today [Friday].

"They both, after yesterday’s training session, told us that they have no problems anymore, so they both should be available for the game.” Two players are likely to miss the match though.

Luke Shaw will definitely miss out today while Scott McTominay is a doubt for the visit of Spurs. Rangnick added: " Luke [Shaw] will still be out, until yesterday [Thursday], he was still testing positive [for Covid] even though he was negative today.

"Without having trained and having some symptoms, it doesn’t make sense to have him in the squad for this game. Hopefully, he will be a candidate for Tuesday but, for Saturday’s game, he will be out.

"There’s also a question mark behind Scott McTominay. He had some calf problems after training yesterday [Thursday] and the day before yesterday, so we didn’t let him train.

"Currently, I don’t want to take the risk in playing him with this kind of injury so those two will probably be out."
