Man United face transfer problem as Chelsea to 'rival' Liverpool for two signings

Liverpool's work continues in the transfer market as Dominik Szoboszlai edges closer to becoming the second summer signing.

The Reds are now set to welcome the Hungarian in addition to Alexis Mac Allister as their quest for midfield reinforcements continues. However while Jurgen Klopp and Jorg Schmadtke get to work, Premier League clubs are all in the same boat looking to welcome their marquee signings.

Manchester City have had a relatively quiet week since the arrival of Mateo Kovacic while talk of departures persists. Arsenal, Manchester United and Newcastle United are preparing for their first campaign back in the Champions League and are wasting no time in bolstering their ranks.

Liverpool's rivals are enduring differing transfer windows thus far, here is a round-up of the latest arrivals and rumours from around the English top-flight.

Manchester City

Manchester City are facing the difficult task of keeping midfielder Bernardo Silva as reports suggest Luis Enrique will cast his net on the Portugal star.

The former Barcelona chief is set to take charge of Paris Saint-Germain with the French outlet closing in on their new head coach. Outlet 90min has reported that the former Spain boss will make Silva his first focus in charge of the Ligue 1 giants.

It has been claimed that during their negotiations with Enrique, interest in the Portugal midfielder was discussed and sources say a move has been given the green light.

The move would see Silva reunite with Luis Ocampos, the PSG advisor, who he spent time with at AS Monaco. They suggest that City will not stand in the way of an exit for Silva as PSG ready a bid.

Arsenal

The Evening Standard have reported that Arsenal are closing in on the signing of Ajax and Holland defender Jurrien Timber.

Declan Rice is already poised to make the switch across London to make the big-money move to the Emirates Stadium after an agreement was reached with West Ham.

The report from Simon Collings says talks are at an advanced stage with a fee set to be finalised. Reports in Holland suggest it has been verbally agreed that the Dutch giants will receive an initial £36m with £4m in add-ons.

It is expected that it will accelerate over the weekend with a deal keen to be wrapped up. Timber is said to be excited by the prospect of joining Mikel Arteta's side in north London.

The move will see Timber come up against his international teammates Virgil van Dijk and Cody Gakpo when they face Liverpool.

Manchester United

Manchester United are scouring the continent and beyond for strike options to bolster their forward line. Victor Osimhen, Randal Kolo Muani and Harry Kane have all been linked this summer.

The latest to be mooted is FC Porto's Mehdi Taremi. According to Jornal de Notícias in Portugal, the Red Devils have identified the Iranian as a forward who matches the characteristics that Erik ten Hag likes.

The Portuguese outlet are said to value the 30-year-old at around €20m (£17m).

United face a problem between the sticks as well. Despite winning the Golden Glove, David de Gea has come under criticism for his role in some of the goals that leaked through this season and he is officially a free agent.

They remain in discussion with the Spaniard to extend his stay at Old Trafford with interest from Saudi Arabia. Andre Onana is also a target but talkSPORT have reported that initial talks have taken place but will have to sell to finance a move for a new goalkeeper and a striker following the £60m acquisition of Mason Mount.

Newcastle United

Newcastle United are closing in on the signing of Sandro Tonali from AC Milan but reports in Italy from Calciomercato suggest he wasn't the only Milan player they were looking to finance a deal for Inter Milan defender Federico Dimarco.

The Magpies have been linked with Crystal Palace defensive duo Marc Guehi and Joachim Andersen with both understood to be of interest, according to the Chronicle.

Chelsea

The firesale continues at Stamford Bridge but their interest in talents across the continent continues.

Yesterday, Villarreal and Senegal forward Nicolas Jackson signed for the Londoners on an eight-year deal to become the second Chelsea signing after the arrival of Christopher Nkunku.

Elsewhere, the Standard are reporting that they will step up their efforts to sign Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Moises Caicedo. This week Mason Mount, Kai Havertz, Mateo Kovacic, N’Golo Kante and Ruben Loftus-Cheek all departed which has seen Mauricio Pochettino's side bank £200m.

The Ecuadorian is keen to move to west London and it has been claimed he has broadly agreed personal terms. Liverpool are interested in Celta Vigo midfielder Gabri Veiga but Chelsea are also considering him as a key attacking midfielder target with a £34.6m release clause in his contract.

Romeo Lavia, also a player of interest for the Reds, and Amadou Onana have been sounded out as alternatives to the Seagulls midfielder.
