For Halloween, Dave Russell and his family transformed their home into a haunted house to raise money for charity. For 12 years straight, the family decorated their home for their community to enjoy, and after four years the scary house returns in Dovecot.
After the hiatus, the family promised to be even bolder, bigger and better than before, with Dave also suggesting he’d be surprising everyone with a special guest.
"This is the first time in four years that we are back, and we've used part of our neighbour's garden," he told the Liverpool Echo.
"We've got a 5ft tunnel to walk through and there's different things, so not every room is the same. Every year we change it, we never do the same thing twice."
The massive event took months of planning, and two weeks of preparation to wow the community, Dave said.
“We've always done it for the local community, we've never charged, it's completely free,” he added.
"We've always taken the bill on the chin but people have been saying to do a collection for charity. So this year, we decided to raise for the kids. I've got five kids myself and so we chose the children's charities because they are only young and we want to give them something to appreciate.
"Zoe's Place and Claire's House are on our doorstep and it's an event for the kids so we thought 'why not raise money for the kids?'. We've put so much effort in, I'm even going to be walking around in stilts, 15ft high.
"The community loves it. We've had people in the past walking for miles with their kids. One guy walked five miles with his two kids because he couldn't afford a taxi and I was just blown away. It's an old Victorian house, 18th century and looks the part."
