Man trampled to death in incident at Malaysian oil plantation

  • A 69-year-old man was killed after being trampled by a wild elephant at a palm oil plantation in Lahad Datu, eastern Sabah, Malaysia.
  • The incident occurred on 12 April around 2.00pm local time, as the man and his 38-year-old son were preparing to leave the plantation.
  • The victim did not have time to escape the attack, and his son attempted to distract the elephant before it moved away.
  • The son rushed his father to hospital, but he was pronounced dead on arrival, with a preliminary examination revealing a broken leg and fractured ribs.
  • Authorities have classified the case as a sudden death and urged the public in the Tungku area to remain vigilant due to the presence of wild elephants.
