A man torched his ex-partner’s car after she had a row with his sister.
Witnesses saw the Vauxhall vehicle burst into flames in the early hours and Paul Christison fleeing the scene.
The car was destroyed in the blaze, Hamilton Sheriff Court heard on Friday.
Christison, 27, appeared from custody via videolink. He admitted wilfully setting fire to the woman’s car in Thrashbursh Road, Cambusnethan on March 6 last year.
Abby Seal, prosecuting, said the woman had a “disagreement” with Christison’s sister a few days earlier and “was expecting something to happen” as a result.
Three females were walking along the road about 12.40am when they heard a loud bang and saw flames coming from the car.
Ms Seal told the court: “They saw the accused who was dressed in black. He had a hood up and was wearing a face mask.
“He ran towards them and got into the driver’s seat of a silver Volkswagen and made off at speed.
“The three females realised it was the woman’s car on fire and went to her house to tell her.
“Firefighters attended and extinguished the flames.”
Police checks revealed Christison had left the homeless unit where he was living around midnight and returned shortly after 1am.
CCTV showed him driving in the area and he was seen buying a fuel can at a garage and filling it with petrol.
Christison further admitted assaulting a man outside Airth Court homeless unit in Motherwell in December 2020.
He also pleaded guilty to a charge of threatening or abusive behaviour while holding a knife at a house in Kirkhill Road, Wishaw, on May 1 last year.
Sheriff Liam Murphy deferred sentence until next month for background reports and Christison was remanded in custody.
