Man thought he was chatting to underage girls - but they were police officers

Undercover police caught a pervert online after the officers pretended to be three young girls. Self-employed Robert Fletcher, who works in construction, thought he was conversing with the girls, all under the age of 16.

But Nottingham Magistrates' Court heard on Thursday (September 8) they were in fact undercover police posing as the children, and this led to 25-year-old Fletcher's arrest in Nottingham. As well as the online sexual chats, he sent them pictures of his private region.

Fletcher, who is of no fixed address and whose date of birth is December 2, 1996, pleaded guilty to attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child, and engaging in sexual communications with a child by sending sexualised messages and images last year.

Indecent images were found - three Category A, the most serious, and 11 in Category C, which Fletcher also pleaded guilty to at a short hearing before a panel of three magistrates. Cannabis was found on him when he was arrested, which he also admitted.

The case was so serious the matter was sent for sentencing at Nottingham Crown Court on October 13. He was granted bail, with a condition he must not make contact with a child under the age of 18 years unless pre-arranged with social services.

The court heard Fletcher, who has a son, works away as a concrete finisher and stays in hotels. He is previously of good character.
