Man taken to hospital with stab wounds after being 'attacked from behind' in Coleraine

A man has been taken to hospital with stab wounds to his head after being "attacked from behind" at his home in Coleraine.

Police are investigating the incident which took place at around 4.10am on Wednesday, March 30, in the Clifton Park area of the town.

It was reported that a man in his 40s heard a knock on his door and after answering it and finding there was no one there. He then went outside to see if anyone was nearby when he was attacked from behind.

He was struck a number of times to the head with a sharp object.

The man managed to make his way back inside his property and was then taken to hospital for treatment to his injuries.

Detective Sergeant Boyd said: "An investigation is now underway and I would appeal to anyone with any information or to anyone who noticed any suspicious activity in the Clifton Park area on Wednesday morning to call detectives in Coleraine on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference number 163 30/03/22.
