A 43-year-old man has been taken to hospital with serious injuries after being hit by a car in Wallsend.
At around 7.45pm on Wednesday, police received a report that a pedestrian had been struck by a car on Station Road, Wallsend. North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) also confirmed that they attended the incident and took the pedestrian and the driver of the vehicle to Newcastle's Royal Victoria Infirmary for further treatment.
High Street East and West were closed at the junction with Station Road while emergency services dealt with the incident. The pedestrian sustained injuries which are believed to be serious but are not life threatening.

Northumbria Police is asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward.
A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: "At around 7.45pm on Wednesday, police received a report a pedestrian had been struck by a car on Station Road, Wallsend.
"Officers and emergency services attended the scene and a 43-year-old man was taken to hospital with serious injuries which are not believed to be life threatening.
"High Street East and West were closed at the junction with Station Road while emergency services were in attendance but has since reopened.
"Anyone who may have seen what happened is asked to contact police via the Tell us Something page on our website, quoting log 987 110522."
A NEAS spokesperson said: "We received a call at 7.44pm last night to reports of a road traffic incident on Station Road, Wallsend. We dispatched two ambulance crews, one rapid response paramedic, and one specialist paramedic. We took two patients to the Royal Victoria Infirmary (RVI) for further treatment."
