Man suffers leg injuries in horror head-on smash that left five hurt

One man was taken to hospital with leg injuries after firefighters rescued him from the wreckage of a car crash, it has been confirmed.

In all five casualties were taken to hospital following the head-on smash in Sale on Saturday night. Firefighters used cutting gear to free the most seriously injured of the casualties from one of the two vehicles involved in the crash at the junction of Ashton Lane and Moss Lane.

Today (Sunday) Greater Manchester Police confirmed he was taken to hospital with leg injuries. A spokeswoman said the injuries were not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing.

The emergency services were called to the junction at 9.30pm following a collision involving two vehicles. Residents reported hearing a loud bang.

One person was cut from a car. Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said last night that five people were injured and taken to hospital.

Firefighters remained at the scene until late in the evening. Police and paramedics were also called to the scene. The GMP spokeswoman said there have been no arrests.

A Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "At around 9.30pm on Saturday 11 February, firefighters were called out to a road traffic collision on Ashton Lane, Sale. Two fire engines from Sale and Altrincham fire stations attended the scene where two cars had collided.

"One person was extricated from a vehicle by firefighters and five casualties involved have all been taken to hospital."
