Man sitting in third floor window 'slipped' and fell to ground

A man who was sat in a third floor window of a flat reportedly "slipped" before falling to the ground below.

Merseyside Police scrambled to Falkner Square in Liverpool's Georgian Quarter just after 4pm on Wednesday, October 5, following reports a man had fallen from a flat window. Merseyside Police requested help from the North West Ambulance Service and the Air Ambulance as the man needed medical assistance.

He was later taken to hospital by air ambulance, with his injuries being described as "serious". The front and back of the property on, Falkner Square and Lowther Street were cordoned off.

The property where the incident took place is a three-storey building, which The ECHO understands has been broken up into a number of individual student flats. Police officers were seen making enquiries with other people living in the building and speaking to people who were at the scene when they arrived.

Two detectives and a forensics officer arrived at the scene a number of hours after the incident.

Eyewitnesses at the scene said they saw the man sitting in the window of his flat, which is believed to be on the third floor. He then slipped and fell to the ground below.

The witness, who asked not to be named, said: "He was sat up there [the back of the building] in his window, I've seen people living there do it before - usually to have a smoke. Then it looked like he slipped and he just fell down.

"I heard a commotion over there after it happened and there were a fair few people there, one was on the phone with the ambulance I think. The emergency services were here within minutes."

Another woman who lives in the area said she saw a number of police vans and cars at around 4pm when she went out, but didn't think anything of it due to the number of patrols in the city at the moment.

She said: "I saw the air ambulance land before and looked out again and saw the cordon. It's awful what's happened, I hope he is okay."

One man who was waiting outside the cordon told The ECHO his girlfriend lives inside and called him to say there was a crime scene outside her house. He added that he thought it was people filming, as they were on the street two nights ago.

A cordon remains in place and enquiries are ongoing at the scene. Anyone with information is asked to contact @MerPolCC with reference 644.
