A man who scaled a roof for a number of hours after cars were smashed in a Wakefield street had to be rescued by firefighters.
Officers from West Yorkshire Police were called to Wharncliffe Road, Kettlethorpe at around 8.20pm yesterday (Tuesday, October 18), following reports of a man causing damage to cars. Police arrived at the scene where they found a man on a house roof.
According to eyewitnesses the man remained on the roof for several hours. Police and the fire service guarded the area until the early hours of this morning. An ambulance was spotted at the scene.

After negotiating with the emergency services, West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service "rescued" the man from the roof of the semi-detached property, an eyewitness said.
Firefighters used an aerial appliance to get him down. Just before midnight, the local man was brought down and handed to the care of Yorkshire Ambulance.
He was taken to hospital for medical checks. Soon after he was arrested in connection with criminal damage. A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: "Police were called to Wharncliffe Road, Kettlethorpe at about 8.21pm on Tuesday to a report of a male damaging cars. Officers attended and located the male on a house roof.
"Following negotiations the male came down with the assistance of the fire service. He was taken to hospital for medical checks and later arrested in connection with the reported criminal damage."
