A raging rooster turned on its owner during an illegal cockfight after attacking him.
The man was left with several deep gashes in his leg after being pecked.
The footage shows the two competitors clutching their cockerels in the pit.
The men hold out their fighting birds as a sporting gesture before then placing them on the ground.
However, one bird has no interest in fighting its rival, instead immediately turning its gaze on its owner.
Without hesitation, the aggressive bird starts pecking the cowering man’s leg.
The hobbling contestant picks up his bird as the other cock tries to fight it.
Both birds are restrained as the man crouches by the entrance.
He received treatment for his leg injuries as blood poured on the sand at the illegal cockfighting venue in Villa de Álvarez, Mexico, on April 3.
Afterwards, the man was taken to a nearby hospital to receive stitches for several gashes on his left leg.
One local resident commented: “That's good, so now you feel what the poor little roosters feel.”
“Cockfights, dogfights, etc. To think there are still people who enjoy this. Barbarians”, wrote another.
