Detectives are working to identify a man who was discovered dead in a canal with a single key and a 30-year-old A-Z map book in his possession. The body was spotted by a member of the public near in the water near the Bramley Fall Woods Park in Leeds just after 9am on Sunday.
The unknown man, who's been described as an 'elderly white male' with facial 'stubble' and a 'bald head with white hair on both sides', was pronounced dead at the scene, the Mirror reports. West Yorkshire Police are appealing for help to identify him as detectives are "conducting extensive enquiries into the circumstance".
A statement from the force details: "He was found wearing a beige zipped up waist length jacket, khaki scarf, a blue jumper with a red and green diamond type design on, a brown belt, beige trousers, brown leather gloves, green socks and a green and brown checked shirt with a gold metal wristwatch."
However, an even bigger mystery behind the unidentified man is that he had only two unusual items on him when he died - a single key and a 30-year-old A-Z map book. Detective Chief Inspector James Entwistle, of Leeds CID, added: “Extensive enquiries are being carried out into the circumstances of the man’s death and at this time we are treating the death as unexplained.
"We would like to speak to anyone who was in Bradley Fall Wood Park area this morning or overnight and who may have seen this male. We would also like to speak to anyone who recognises the description of this man to come forward and provide assistance.”
