The body of a missing warehouse worker was found five miles out to sea off the North Wales coast by a catamaran crew, an inquest opening heard.
Police had appealed for information following the disappearance of Garry Jones and his body was discovered in the sea off Rhyl last month, a hearing at Ruthin County Hall was told on Monday, April 4.
Mr Jones, of Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, was spotted five miles out to sea by the crew of a catamaran called Mareel Onyx on March 3, 2022, reported the Daily Post.
Kate Sutherland, assistant coroner for North Wales east and central, heard that the body of the 55-year-old was found by the boat's skipper.
Mr Jones had been missing since January this year.
North Wales Police shared an appeal at the time stating that the Stoke-on-Trent man was believed to be in the Conwy area after his car had been found there.
The coroner said that Mr Jones had been formally identified following DNA analysis.
A postmortem has been conducted though the provisional cause of death is currently withheld.
The inquest was adjourned to a future date pending further investigation.
North Wales Police's local team for the Denbighshire Coastal and Abergele area had asked the public to help finding Mr Jones with an appeal it made on Facebook.
It read: "We have concerns for Gary, 55, missing since 1.15pm on Wednesday, January 5.
"Gary may be in the Kinmel Bay / Towyn areas. He is approx 5ft 10in tall with shaven hair and facial stubble.
"If you have seen Gary, or know his whereabouts, please contact us via our Live Webchat online or on 101 quoting ref iTrace 40847."
